Bay Leaf Albion

Some nights (okay, most nights), I really don’t feel like cooking. I want to get home, get into my jammies, and munch on toast while watching The Real Housewives of X.

So when the folks at Menulog contacted me to see if I wanted to try out their online takeaway website, it didn’t take much convincing. In fact I’m pretty sure I hopped on the computer immediately, navigated to what places were delivering to the northside, found the delivery Indian cuisine page, and placed my order with Bay Leaf at Albion. Two days in advance. Ahem.

We ordered a red onion salad ($3.50), onion pakoras ($5.95 for four), a Chicken Korma ($13.95), a Mix Vegetable Curry ($12.95), a Garlic Naan ($3.50), and a Kashmiri Naan ($3.95). Yes that’s a lot of food for two people. I can feel your eyes judging me through the computer screen. In our defence, the servings were so generous (and they gave us a ridiculous amount of steamed rice), that we got four meals out of this order – so for around $40 delivered, we had dinner for two nights in a row. Not too shabby.

There’s really no way to take a nice photo of Indian food. Case in point:

I can reassure you that the taste, unlike my photography skills, was definitely not sub par. The Korma was full of chunks of chicken breast (a rare find in curries!), and the mix veggie curry had just enough spice and flavour to make eating broccoli and carrots a pleasant experience. The pakoras were my favourite – huge, slightly crispy, and stuffed with so much onion that they almost tasted meaty. The naans were both good, although a little smaller to what I’ve seen in many other Indian restaurants.

This meal definitely beat out my usual toast (but the Housewives and jammies are here to stay).
